The candle marketplace is a popular consumer of fragrances for many positive reasons. The fragrances used are done so almost exclusively by one segment of the industry, commercial/retail. Other segments include religious and institutional/restaurants. However, closely linked to scented candles are incense, potpourri, simmering scents, and other in-home scented products.
Any fragrance commonly used in one product is popular in all. Popular aromas currently include vanilla, oriental, spice, patchouli, amaretto, and Christmas scents such as evergreen, bayberry, and cranberry. Other common fragrances used are coconut, cinnamon, lemon, floral, and designer perfume duplications.
Please note, however, that scented candles can be further divided into two categories: mass-market and boutique. Mass-market candles usually contain 1-2% of fragrance oil. Boutique candles contain higher levels of oil, as much as 5%, and are often based on more feminine scents such as a name brand perfume.
A novel development in scented candles is their use in decoration. Candles are an inexpensive way to create a nostalgic or festive look in a home. This is achieved through coordination of candle scent, shape and color with home furnishings. Please click here for more information.
